Basics -
Name: Birth name, Miriella Harper, currently currently living by the name Amelia Simmon.
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Nationality/Hometown/State:American/Libertyville/Illinois (Currently residing in New York)
Misc. Stats: 5'9'' 130lbs Auburn hair, blue-green eyes, fair (somewhat freckled)white skin.
Character Depth -
Appearance: Tall, slim, and with a set toward wiry, she's not exactly what most people would cosider beautiful. Her compact build allows easy movement, and a spryness that may surprise people, however. Her reddish-orange hair has a natural lushness to it--which is to say its a royal pain to deal with, constantly mussing, and snarling horribly if she doesn't sacrifice time to deal with it. She wears it no longer than chin length to minimize this effect.
Personality: Outwardly cool, collected, indifferent, and always on hand with snarky comments, she is often accused of being cold and shades of cruel. She has a strong sense of determination about her decisions, that may be better described as stubborness or obstinance, and as a result tends to grate on
most people's nerves. Inwardly, she's a mess of nerves and conflicting ideals borne from too many people's input in her raising.--selfishness and monomania, and nobility and compassion and kindness and generosity and cynism and spite.Although not so drastic as to form alternate personalities, her two 'sides' are often warring with eachother over what to do--so causing her largely constant state of indifference and disinterest with the world.
Quirks/Phobias/Oddities: She's acutely aquaphobic, and mildly agoraphobic, the former from an accident involving a storm at sea resulting in almost drowning, and the latter being completely unexplainable.
Skills and Talents: She can play the piano, and is fairly good at lying--as her powers tend to aid her in her endeavors at deception.
Family/Past relationships: Mother Castille Harper and Father Alexander Harper and younger brother Antione Harper, all deceased. Fiancee Adrian Sammael, also deceased.
Misc. Traits and Trivia: She hates politics and refuses to vote, although due to her constantly transient nature, she has never been a registered voter in any state anyway.
History:
From a young age, Miriella did not have a difficult life. Her parents and family were easily middle class, and reaching for upper-middle class. Her father worked as an airforce pilot when he was younger, and retired with honors, recieving a healthy pension throughout his later years, and her mother worked in social services. Through her early childhood, little of note happened, with the exception of a family boating trip when she was five(which they won at a raffle). A nasty storm hit the boat while they were out, and although no lives were lost, Miriella became entangled with some of the ropes and supplies they had with them, and was swept off of the boat, nearly drowning.
Her powers surfaced when she was 12, and had accidentally shattered an expensive vase that her mother owned. Panicked at her mistake and the sound of her parents rushing in at the sound, Miriella went through several stages of irrational half-boiled plans in her head, wishing most that it could simply be undone and the vase be back. When the door burst open and she turned sheepishly to face the wrath of her parents, she found them baffled at the lack of anything broken, and in turn found herself shocked to see the vase standing intact on its pedistal--with no sign of the remnants on the floor anymore. After a quick round of explainations, she was alone once again in the room, and reached out to touch the miraculous vase. Her hand simply passed right through it, and with a start she watched the vase blink out of existance, and the fragments return.
In her ensuing years through middle school and high-school, she experimented with this bizzare short-lived miraculous ability, learning its true origins, and beginning to harness the abilities of illusions to her own purposes, experimenting with how to make them the most convincing, how to keep people from touching, and working toward making them substantial in some small way.
At fifteen, she met the young man that would become her fiancee, and serve as a catalyst to the beginning of her quest for answers and meaning. At seventeen she became engaged to the young pretty and rather charismatic man named Adrian Sammael, but chose to keep her abilities secret from him as she had from her family (or so she at least she hoped she had) most of her life. Aside from this one blip of mistrust, the forecast for their relationship seemed as peaceful and serene as the rest of her life had been. Unfortunately, her relationship, as had her life been, was not as simple as it seemed at a glance. Undercurrents of secrets from both sides worked to tear them apart without either's knowledge.
On her eighteenth birthday, one week from the date of the wedding, she and Adrian were working out some of the final details of the planning at her parent's home. Her mother, pregnant at the age of 38, had a craving for mocha-chocolate ice cream, so Miriella offered to run out to the store to pick some up (as she wanted to pick up a cappiccino anyway). Traffic was worse than she anticipated, and it was a half hour later, and starting to downpour and ruin her mood by the time she came back.
She took a quick detour to the mailbox to pick up the mail before heading in, despite her mother tapping her foot in the doorway impatiently, and when she pulled open the box at the street, her two story home from childhood exploded violently, sending her flying several feet back onto the asphalt street, and leaving her gaping at the burning wreck that had been everything she had known.
She didn't have the courage to look through the wreckage after her family, before she ran. She's never truly stopped running, whether to or from whoever caused the explosion, searching desperately for the reasons why and how her life was blown apart before her eyes. Local police presumed her dead along with the rest of her family, and she chose not to dispute this, instead taking on a new name--Amelia for the baby that was never born, and choosing the last name of an Ohioan cab driver. She uses a blank laminated card as her ID.
She is currently residing in Manhattan, New York, but there is no telling how long she will remain there before the restlessness that has ruled her for the last two years claims her again.
Hero stuff -
Power: Photokinesis. At the moment most of her abilities are aimed toward aesthetics, including the bending of light to create illusions, and the concentrating of light to create blinding effects. Later, as she begins to realize the scope of her powers, she will be able to concentrate light into the form of beams like lasers, for highly destructive effect, to a limited degree she will be able to manipulate tempuratures, and her association with it will afford her resistance and eventually immunity to light-energy. It is possible that with enough effort, she may find a way to concentrate the light in such a way as to artificially 'solidify' her illousions.
Level of mastery/awareness of power: At this moment she does not fully comprehend her abilities. Although what she does understand of it (flares and illusion) she has down to second-nature, most of her potential is still completely unknown to her.
Alliegence: She knows of no sides, but would be inclined to join whatever side contacted her with an enticing offer first.
Goals/Driving purposes: To discover what caused the explosion of her family's home, and to find out why and how she has the abilities she has...and perhaps to find a better goal and purpose to set her life to.
