1. Make your own thread for your characters. They will be evaluated there.
2. Make your profile as descriptive as you possibly can. "She has red hair" won't be accepted as a description.
3. Be creative, yet realistic with your characters. Remember this is set in the real world.
Here lies some important rules and guidelines to remember while playing in HGP. It is highly advisable that you read these rules, as there may be penalties for not following them.
1 - Post a minimum of three paragraphs each post. If you can't manage three, then make sure the two you do have are full of details.
2 - Soap Operas do not impress us. Not everyone is the abused emo goth kid from a rich family who was unloved and spouts magic fairy wings that take them to happiness. And we don't WANT them to be, either. In short--Make your stories realistic. Please.
3 - No, Nathan does NOT have another love child. Relations to canon characters are accepted only on a strict case-by-case basis. OC relations must be approved by the one playing it.
4 - You have your own life--and so do Canon characters. While we concede that all Heroes were normal people, and that they most likely ran into other heroes in their day to day lives, Peter did not date five of them in highschool. In short: Running into other heroes, saying hello, spilling paint all over them = Usually OK... Being a highschool sweetheart, or an old drinking buddy = NOT Okay. Use common sense.
5 - The president's favorite kid doesn't get to kill people with their mind. Fairly simple...although not set in stone, in general the really powerful in life get the not-so-powerful abilities, and vice-versa.
6 - We are all special. In different ways. Don't copy powers. There are HUNDREDS of variations of abilities to use, so don't steal other canons or OC's powers. That's Sylar's job.
7 - A man makes up is own mind. Except under special circumstances, no one starts out their journey recruited by Hana or OWI. You may have been abducted--and lost your memory, but only IC decisions can determine whether Linderman will take an interest in your character, or Hana. Or Sylar.
8 - This is only the beginning of humanity's next steps. No one is a god--yet. Lucrative powers aren't amusing, and we won't humor them in applications. Be reasonable. Or Sylar will eat you.
9 - The story unfolds, not the script. When posting, use Third Person OR First Person (And stick to one, please). NOT script format.
Example of bad writing:
CLAIRE: *looks around and pants* I think he's gone...
*There is a crash and the wall crumbles*
MYSTERY MAN/SYLAR: You're not safe yet!
Example of GOOD writing:
She threw the oven mitt at her friend, trying to hide her amusement behind indignation. "That's not funny, Zach!"
"You know it's true, Claire." He insisted with a grin. "One of these days you're going to wake up and Mr. Muggles is going to be trying to eat your toes now that he's tasted blood. Its what animals do."
8 - Only you can only walk your path. Don't Godmod. Ever. Godmodding is considered controlling another person's character (or a cannon) in a post without permission.
9 - No man can know everything. Don't use OOC knowledge you've learned from reading other posts, or watching the show, or anything else if your character wouldn't, shouldn't, or couldn't know it.
10 - Don't be gimmicky with your names. We don't wanna see Sarah Malfoy or Inu Lisa. You will not get accepted if you do. Remember, this IS set in the REAL WORLD.
11 - Heroes are humans, too. Do not make characters with flaming eyes, bubblegum hair, and blue skin. Bear in mind that supers are NOT public knowledge, and any powers you have should be somewhat concealable. Using any fantasy colors or attributes will get your profile judged far more strictly.
