It hadn't taken long to loop the stage discreetly and make sure there were no alternate escapes for which the screamer to escape through, and after that, it had simply been a matter of choosing a discreet place to wait, and set up camp. He had been through a thousand bag-and-tags, and this one was no different. They never considered who they were up against--they all wanted to pretend they could just go back to normal life like nothing happened.
And that was precisely the reason they never could.
He rested against a nearby bench, while his partner leaned leisurely against the wall next to where their target would come through. Neither of them said a word, and neither of them were particularly fond of using them, anyway, so it worked out just fine.
He had just checked his watch to register it had been two hours, and his companion had wiped the memory of at least one overly nosy stagehand, when the man finally appeared, strolling along as if he didn't have a powerful company after him. It was so cluelessly insolent it was almost humorous.
His dark-skinned partner needed no cue from him to jump the man, hand over his mouth and nose, and wrestle him down.
"You should have taken the easy way, Mister Fernandez."

Marco didn't even have time to fight as he slowly fell into the great sea of black that was a side effect of the man's power. When next he would awale, it would be a much different world for him.

Why do we try to fight the deadly current of fate? What do we gain by it, when things most often seem inevitable? Can we ever truly change it, or do we just slow down the events to take place? Will we ever be the makers of our destiny, or does it wait for us around the corner, ready for the time when we drop our guards to strike? Perhaps we may never know.
